I saw my first Women in Voice way back in 2003 (I think, it’s all a bit hazy that long ago) and I loved it.
Every time I’ve had the chance to see it since then, I’ve walked away – or should that be danced out? – feeling like I’d just spent the last few hours with a bunch of my besties down in the local pub.
And the 2019 Women in Voice is no exception!
Women in Voice has a great formula: incredible music, hilarious MC, outstanding band, bit of storytelling, some laughs, some tears and a cast of brilliant local performers.
Somehow, even though the Powerhouse Theatre was packed to the rafters, I felt as though I was in my mate’s living room chilling out, kicking back and having a killer jam session.
I love the stories the performers tell – their own stories, their connections to Women in Voice, their experience as artists.
I loved the tunes they picked – I’m still listening to Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You” the morning after because whenever I hear a really good cover, it makes me want to just dive back in and have my own silent disco karaoke (ok, not so silent sometimes).
If you’re familiar with Women in Voice – great, what are you waiting for?
Treat yourself and your mates to a good night out.
If you’ve never been – there’s no time like the present so hop to and check it out!
