Kurt Weill's Street Scene

4-11 Sep 2021

Queensland Conservatorium, South Brisbane

Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University

Street Scene by Kurt Weill is a groundbreaking synthesis of traditional opera and musical theatre.

Set on the East Side of Manhattan in sweltering 1940’s New York, the tale centres around residents of tenement buildings over a 24-hour span. Neighbourly gossip, a romance and a torrid affair escalate tensions to a tragic end.

Performed by the students of Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Street Scene is directed by Michael Gow and conducted by Johannes Fritzsch.

Contains low-level violence
