BRISBANE CIRCUS CENTRE

The Brisbane Circus Centre, the impressive new home of Flipside Circus at Northshore Brisbane, officially throws open its doors in February with three fun-filled public events planned to celebrate its opening.

Flipside Circus, Queenlsand’s largest youth arts organisation, hosts an official launch on Friday 24 February before raising the curtain on the world premiere season of From Little Things, a jaw-dropping collaboration with Casus Creations from 2 – 11 March.

The entire community is invited to run away with the circus, learn new tricks and test their skills at the Flipside Open Day on Sunday 5 March.

Flipside Circus CEO/Artistic Director Robert Kronk was delighted to unveil the state-of-the-art, purpose-built centre and said it would drive massive growth for Queensland’s artistic landscape.

“The Brisbane Circus Centre has long been a dream for Flipside and we’re very excited to finally show off our new space,” Kronk said.

“The Centre combines form and function, design and utility, to create an iconic building that is uniquely circus and provides world-class facilities for our artists and community.

“Made from shipping containers, it is a modern industrial circus sculpture that our artists can climb, jump and swing from.

“We could not have made this dream a reality without the support of our funding partners and the tireless efforts of the Flipside family.”

Brisbane Circus Centre’s first show, From Little Things, is an ambitious debut production that celebrates circus and the way circus skills are passed from one generation to another.

Internationally renowned company Casus Creations worked side-by-side with Flipside’s young and early-career artists to showcase the spirit of collaboration and mentorship that makes the Flipside community stand apart.

From Little Things co-director and co-creator Jesse Scott said circus has always been a collaborative art form.

“Growing up in the circus, I knew how important it was to pass down knowledge from generation to generation,” Scott said.

“We really thought we could showcase that, not just as directors and trainers, but as performers in the show as well to assist in the upbringing of the next generation.”

The Flipside Open Day on 5 March is an exciting opportunity to try circus skills, explore the Brisbane Circus Centre and join the Flipside community.

Trainers will teach circus skills including trapeze, mini-trampoline, hula-hooping, juggling and devil sticks over three sessions including a Sensory Friendly Workshop at 1.30pm.

The Brisbane Circus Centre is set to welcome 110,000 visitors a year and, as Queensland’s largest circus centre, will train more than 55,000 participants.

It will also help Flipside Circus deliver programs to regional and remote communities, support circus performances and attract circus artists and companies from across Australia.
